Conservation Field Days

Otter Creek and their partners UVM Extension System, Addison County Forester, Patricia Hannaford Career Center and the Natural Resource Conservation Service are once again sponsoring Conservation Field Days for 5th & 6th grade students in Addison County.   Field Days are designed to provide the students with hands-on, interactive education in several natural resource areas.  The event will be held on September 12th, 2017 from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Addison County Fair and Field Days grounds in New Haven.

Approximately 30 professional instructors are brought together to provide local students with experience in forestry, wildlife, water, agriculture, local foods, and soils.  The goal is that students will realize that each area in natural resources is related and they have an impact on their watershed.  Key concepts will include natural resources, conservation, land health, water quality, site productivity, invasive species, riparian stream buffer and succession.

Special Topic 2017

Local Farms and Foods. Honey, Orchards, cheese, the list of local foods is extensive. Local farmers led by Cheryl Cesario, UVM Extension, Middlebury will present how their efforts benefit Addison County consumers.

Please fill in your registration form (even if you are not attending this year) and return it to Pam at the Otter Creek District BEFORE school ends in June.  I will be sending information packets to 30 instructors and schools with instructions at least two weeks before school starts.

Thank you for joining us in conservation.
